Pursuant to the Law of Higher Education and Science, the University of Warsaw invites applications for at most 3 assistant positions in the group of researchers and lecturers in the Institute of Mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics. Candidates eligible to participate in the competition must meet the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1571, as amended).

Terms of employment: planned starting date is 1 October 2025 or 1 February 2026, full-time job, fixed-term employment contract for 2 years. The candidates should be committed to research in Mathematics, and teaching up to 210 teaching hours per academic year. The basic salary (before taxes) is 6 442 PLN per month with an additional seniority allowance (1% of the base salary for each year of employment); in many cases, this amount is further increased by 10–40% due to salary bonuses granted to active faculty members, see the Remuneration Rules at the University of Warsaw. Employees are provided with a benefits package, access to training, and support for professional development.

Requirements. Successful candidates for the Assistant position should have:

  1. the title of Master of Mathematics (or an equivalent title in a related discipline);
  2. research papers in Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields, published in refereed, globally recognized journals;
  3. willingness to undertake organizational projects related to teaching;
  4. international experience (e.g. fellowships, cooperation with foreign co-authors, projects, conferences);
  5. positive evaluation of previous teaching duties.

The application should contain the following documents:

  1. A cover letter addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, containing the following statement: as a candidate, I hereby confirm that I have read and understood the rules governing competitions at the University of Warsaw, as specified by the Rector's Ordinance No. 106 and § 123 of the Statute of the University of Warsaw, and I accept these rules.
  2. a signed consent form for the processing of personal data for recruitment purposes, by GDPR (cf. attachment);
  3. a copy of a Master's or PhD diploma;
  4. an academic CV with a list of publications, see sample documents at https://www.mimuw.edu.pl/en/open-positions;
  5. copies of selected publications (not more than 3);
  6. the candidate’s Ph.D. dissertation and a referee’s opinion if the dissertation was defended or the supervisor’s opinion if there has been no dissertation defense yet.
  7. names, affiliations, and contact details of two persons who agreed to send recommendation letters.

Application deadline: 14 February, 2025

The applications will be evaluated by the selection committee appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw, Poland. A candidate may be invited to an interview by the committee. The decision date is 31 May 2025 (an e-mail notification will be provided). The competition is the first stage of the recruitment process as described in the Statute of the University of Warsaw, the recommendation by the selection committee being a basis for subsequent stages.

The University of Warsaw has implemented a procedure for whistleblowers to report legal violations and for subsequent follow-up actions—the Internal Reporting Procedure, which is an annex to the Rector’s Order No. 94 of 17 September 2024 on the procedure for reporting legal violations by whistleblowers and taking follow-up actions at the University of Warsaw.
