COMPETITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, with the consent of the Rector of the University of Warsaw, announces a competition for the position of an Assistant Professor (K/M).

Form of employment and length of working time (proportionally to full-time employment): Full-time employment under a fixed-term employment contract
Expected date of commencement of work and employment period: 1 October 2026 or 1 February 2027, 4 years. On positive assessment after the last year of employment, the contract can be extended for an indefinite period.
Remuneration
Basic salary: PLN 8,589 gross per month, increased by a seniority allowance (1% for each documented year of service in accordance with applicable regulations) and a 13th-month salary. In justified cases, in particular for the most scientifically active individuals, the salary may be additionally increased by 10–40% in accordance with the Remuneration Regulations of the University of Warsaw.

The selected candidate will:
- conduct scientific research in the field of mathematics,
- teach academic courses (210 teaching hours per year).

Conditions for entering the competition
- PhD degree in mathematics or a related discipline.
- Significant research publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals or international conference proceedings in computer science.
- Experience in teaching and readiness to engage in teaching-related organisational activities.
- Proven international research experience (e.g., postdoctoral fellowships, participation in international projects).
- Submission of a plan for future research activity.

Criteria for the assessment of candidates in a competition
Criteria for Evaluating Scientific Activity
- Publications. The quality of the most important publications indicated in the application, assessed on the basis of their scientific merit, number of citations, and the reputation of the journal, conference, or publisher (in the case of monographs).
- Research Plans. A convincing vision of future research, evaluated on the basis of the submitted description and the presentation during the interview.
- Funding and Commercialisation. Obtained research grants or participated in research grants.
- Visibility in the Scientific Community. Awards and distinctions; invited talks; participation in scientific or program committees of conferences; reviewing for journals, conferences, publishers, and grant-awarding institutions; participation in journal editorial boards, including as a “guest editor”; involvement in procedures for awarding academic degrees and titles, and in the evaluation of scientific output.
- International Experience. Research stays at foreign scientific institutions; research collaboration with scholars from international institutions; presentations at international scientific conferences.
- Leadership Position in Science. Leading research groups and projects (including informal ones); defining scientific problems and playing a leading role in publications; educating early-career researchers (with particular emphasis on supervision of PhD students).
- Scientific independence: defining scientific problems and playing a leading role in publications.
- Research Fit. Alignment of the research topics with the needs of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics (MIM).
Criteria for Evaluating Teaching Activity
- Experience. Number of courses taught and their diversity in terms of subject matter and form (lectures, laboratories, tutorials, seminars, coordination of large courses), evaluated on the basis of a submitted list of taught courses including: course title, number of teaching hours, type of classes (lecture, tutorial, laboratory, etc.), academic year; jointly taught courses should be clearly indicated.
- Quality. Awards and distinctions; results of student evaluations, class observations, and assessments; quality of the sample lecture delivered during the interview.
- Innovation and Materials. Authorship or co-authorship of textbooks and other teaching materials; implementation of new methods, tools, content, and educational programs.
- Mission. Dissemination of educational knowledge among teachers; projects and initiatives within the framework of lifelong learning; activity in educational organisations; organisation of and participation in educational conferences; teaching activities for gifted youth and students; involvement in the organisation of academic olympiads; coordination of educational projects and engagement of students in research projects; outreach and science communication activities.
- Languages. Proficiency in Polish or English should be sufficient for teaching and communication with students.
The position is related to activities covered by the protection of minors.

Stages of competition
The competition consists of the following stages:
Stage I - formal evaluation of documents,
Stage II - substantive evaluation on the basis of submitted documents,
Stage III - interview with selected candidates (presentation of a research plan taking into account previous achievements, a sample of teaching activities, conversation in a foreign language),
Stage IV - final evaluation of competence, experience and scientific achievements,
Stage V - adjudication of the competition and announcement of results.

The Faculty staff conduct research on a wide range of topics in mathematics, computer science, and their applications. Researchers employed at the Faculty lead over a hundred research projects, including several prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grants.
